This research institute was established in March, 1989, as an affiliated research institute in College of Natural Sciences of Seoul National University for the purpose of studying statistical theory, developing statistical techniques and related software, fostering statistical consultation, dissemination of statistical knowledge through extension courses, and conducting collaborative projects with government, industry and other research institutes.
